Chapter 4: Painted Faces and Long Hair

1. What things are you having trouble adjusting to on the island that are different from your life at home in England?

Some things that we are having trouble with on the island are:

Being nice to each other

All helping out on the island

We really need help on these, because if we wont be rescued soon, we all need to get along. And if not everyone helps, then nothing will get done.

2. How do you feel about the littluns?

I understand that the little kids want to play, eat, and have fun, but I also think that they should focus on the more important things, first. We should all be helping to hunt, and build shelter.

3. What do they do with their time?

Instead of helping, the little kids just hang around, and play, eat, and bathe.

4. Why do you all paint your faces?

We paint our faces and bodies, so that the pigs cannot smell us or see us when we are hunting them.

5. What does this foreshadow?

I think that people on the island will start painting their faces just to look wild, and not just for the real meaning of it.

6. How do you feel when your face is painted?

When my face is painted, I feel powerful, and kind of wild.

7. Why doesn’t the passing ship see you on the island?

The ship doesn’t see us, because our fire went out, so there was no smoke signals.

8. Why was the fire allowed to go out?

The fire went out because jack and the hunters left it alone. They needed to get the people that were usually in charge of the fire, so they would have enough people to make the ring. The ring was used to surround the pig, then get closer and closer ‘till they can stab it. We all got meat that night, but Jack was being so rude and cruel to Piggy. He did not give him any meat, and he was yelling at him.

The overall mood on the island is kind of wild, and out of control. People are being mean to other people, and there has been some fighting.

Chapter 3: Huts on the Beach

Lord of the Flies

Chapter 3: Huts on the Beach

Working hard

Perspective: Piggy

Dear Diary,

I am a bit concerned about the jobs of the boys. Well, I am the person who looks over the littleuns. Which is very important, because we don’t want any kids running off, and maybe having the same thing done to them that was done to the boy with the mark. Simon and Ralph, make the shelter, the huts. I think that job is important too, because then we all have a safe place to sleep, and the little boys won’t be so scared. Jack, is the hunter. When I was sitting, watching the little boys play, I heard Jack yelling about his days vicissitudes to poor Ralph. And Jack hasn’t even caught any meat yet!

I do not think that all the jobs are being carried out, because while Ralph and Simon are building the huts and working hard, all the kids are playing, bathing, and eating. I think that everyone should be helping right now. Simon, he is young, but he still works. He is small, with black hair around his face. He also is known for fainting. He’s one of Jack’s choir boys.

If we don’t get rescued soon, then we may die on the island. Jack is supposed to be providing the meat, but he can’t catch any! And all the boys need to start working on the shelters, and maybe gather more fruits. Everyone on the island should be working in some way.

I wish to get rescued soon

Almost all the boys are mean to me

I just want to go back to auntie

And be at home

Chapter 2: Fire on the Mountain

Lord of the Flies

Chapter 1: Fire on the Mountain

News on the island

Perspective: Ralph

Dear journal,

Things have been getting a little out of control already on the island. However, I am induced that this island can still be a good one, if things get a bit more organized. But how can it be a good island with some kids still thinking there is a “beastie” here? A so called “snake thing” that the kid with the birthmark and his friends saw in the creepers. I do not think the beast is real, but the boy was so scared, so it was almost hard to not believe him. It makes me feel kind of nervous, what if the kids start looking towards the beastie, instead of me? I’m not too scared, though, because I am the leader and possessor of the conch.

Anyways, I'm sure that my dad will come to the island soon and rescue us. I mean, he is a commander in the navy, and he told me that the queen had a map of every island. He’ll find us. But, I hope he doesn’t hurry too much. I think I want to have a little fun with the “no parents on the island” thing. It is great to be the leader of so many boys, and to have so much power. We did try a fire on the mountain, for smoke signals. All the boys were officious, and we got the fire going good. But then, it didn’t work out too well. It was all flame, and no smoke. Then before we knew it, we had caught the forrest on fire, and Piggy gave a martyred speech. The boy with the mark on his face was down below in the creepers, and he then burned to death when the fire came along.

I think that I am different from the other boys, because I am not as errant as most of them. Most of the kids go capering around, but, I guess thats just what young boys do. I think I am the most mature one in the whole group. When I go to bed each night though, I am nervous for what the next day will bring, yet excited. As I said before, I love being the leader of the boys.

Chapter 1: The Sound of the Shell

Lord of the Flies

Chapter 1: The Sound of the Shell

Just not Piggy

Perspective: Piggy

Dear diary,The Island is a strange place. It’s long and almost appears never-ending. You can almost see the heat; you could cook fish n’ chips on the coral reef. Our plane was shot at on the way over the island. We crashed and left a scar on the island. The plane flew away… we think. There weren’t any adults on the plane, except the pilot, who flew the plane away.I’m… Piggy. I wear spectacles and I have asthma. The other boys call it ass-mar. Ralph, our leader, was my first friend on this Island, but he still kind of ignores me. Jack freaks me out. He is one person I would not want to mess with. The kids are alright to. They aren’t that mean to me.The person holding the conch has all the power. The conch to us represents order, and it’s the time to listen up. I don’t like the idea of the conch, it means only the one person holding it has a say, and I want a say in decisions to. I feel like I could have spectacular input on our decisions on the island.Jack’s choir’s job is to hunt for food. Jack’s in charge of them. They seem like they’ll do whatever Jack wants, so they freak me out too.I want Ralph to be the leader on the island, because like I said numerous times before, Jack seems evil and creepy.

-Yours truly... NOT Piggy
